You’ve found your recent travel rather dreary; I don’t expect an answer to the query— But aren’t you getting weary? Weary of Belles, and Balls, and grand Addresses’ Weary of Military and their messes? W’eary of adulation and caresses? Weary of shouts from the admiring masses? Weary of worship from the upper classes? Weary of horses, may’rs and asses? Of course ’twas kindly meant— But don’t you now repent Your good Manuna’s consent That you should be. This side the sea. The “British Lion" which you represent? Pray leave your city courtiers and their capers. And come to us; we’ve no pictorial papers; And no Reporters to distort your nose. Or mark the awkward carriage of your toes. Your style of sneezing, and such things as those; Or, meaner still, in democratic spite. Measure your Royal Highness by your height! Then come to us! W'e’re not the sort of folk to make a fuss E’en for the Prksidrst—but then, my boy. We plumply promise you a special joy, To Princes rarely known, (And one yoti’ll never find about a throne,) To wit, the bliss of being let alone! No scientific bores from Athenaeums; No noisy guns, nor tedious ie deutnt. Shall vex your Royal Highness for a minute; A glass of lemonade, with “something in it,” A fragrant meerschaum, with the morning news. Or sweet Virginia “fine-cut”—if you chew*— These, and what else your Highness may demand 'Of simple luxury, shall be at hand. And at your royal service. Come! 0 come where you may gain (What advertisers oft- have sought in vain) “The comforts of a home”! Come, Prince of Wales!—we greatly need. Your royal presence. Sir,—we do indeed. For why?—we have a pretty hamlet here, But then, you see, ’tis equally as clear (Your Highnesfi understands Shakesperean hints) A Hamlet isn’t much without a Prince! Ten Years.—Tlitt changes which have taken place between 1850 and IStiO in the economic condition ot our country are very great. In that period the gold mine.s have been discovered in California and Australia. Iu 1840 we had 84 paper cireulation to $1 of specie; in 1850 only 83 to $1; in 1860 less than 82 to 81. In 1849 the product of precious metals was 895,000,000; in 1859 it was 8264,000,000. The whole amount now in the world is estimated at 810,000,000^000, of which six-tenths is silver. It was always sup posed that a sudden increase in the quantity of money increases prices. This has not proved true, for in spite of the influx of gold, and in spite of the repeal of the English corn laws, which has enabled us to export immense quantities of flour and grain, prices in general are lower and wages higher than they ever were before. Tables show that prices generally during forty years were highest in 1837 and lowest about 184o. Flour was so scarce in 1847 that we imported 85,000,000; its average price for forty years has been 86 54 per barrel. The sale of tea has increased in twenty^ve years ^rom 13,000,- 000 to 36,000,000 lbs.; the average price for that period has been forty-eight cents. The cot ton crop has increased in forty years from 180,- 000,000 lbs. to 1,800,000,000 lbs. great de mand for breadstuffs from 1850 to 1857, occasion ed by railway labor and the repeal of.the British corn laws, kept prices generally on the advance; but iu 1857, un account of the abundaiit crops, the slackening of the shipping and railway interests and a glutted cotton market, a dviwnward tenden cy prevailed. Our exports of breadstuffs from 1850 to 1860 were 8480,000,000. Prices do not seem generally to be affected by the fluctuations of paper currency. In 18^9 the bank-note circn* lation was 8119,000,000; in 1852, 8173,000,000; iu March, 1858, it was 8120,000,000, shortly afttfr which it rose to 8156,000,000. Newark Daily Adve.rlister. The Game oj Euchre anti Life.—An Arkan~ sns Father's Advice to hia Son.—There is a gen- u?ne humor in the idea that an Arkansas man finds the most natural expression, even of parting advice to his son, in the language of the card ta ble, and the manner in which the terms of the game of “euchre” are there fitted to the game of life is ingenious: “Bob, you are about leaving home for strange parts.. You’re going to throw me out of the game, and go it alone. The odds is against you, Jk)b, but remember always that indu.stry and persever ance are the winning cards; they are the ‘bowers.’ Book laming and all that sort of thing will do to till up with, like small trumps, but you must have the bowers to back ’em, else they ain’t worth shncks. If luck runs agin you pretty strong, don’t cave in and look like a sick chicken on a rainy day, but hold your head up and make ’em believe you’re flush of trumps; they won’t play so hard agin you. I’ve lived anl travelled around m/mo, Bob, and I’ve found out that as sojn as folks thought you held a weak hand, they’d back agin you .strong. So, when you’re sorter weak, keep on a bold front; but play cautious, be satis fied with a pint. Many’s the t|^nd I've seen euchred ’cause they played for too much. Keep your eyes well skinned. Bob; don’t let ’em ‘’nig’ on you; recollect that the game lays as much with the head as with the htinds. Be temperate; never get drunk, for then no matter how good your hand, you won’t know how to play it; both bowers and the ace won’t save you, for there’s sartin to be a ‘mis-deal’ or something wrong. And aiMtlter thing. Bob (this was si)oken in a low tone,) go too much on the women; queens is kinder ' cards; the more 3>ou have of them the worse To the Interest or«-Tni*pentine Distillers. F«b’y 1, im, mt one sartin to be one out ot four. And above all Bob, be hon est; never take a man’s trick Prot don’t belong to you; nor ^slip cards,’ nor ‘’nig,’for then you can’t look your man in the face, and when that’s the case there’s no fun ift the game; it’s a regular ‘cutthroat.’ So, now, Bob, farewell, remember wot I tell you, and you’ll be sure to win, and if you don’t, sarveayou right to get skunko«l!” A Queer Suit.—St. lx)uis is a great place *»r Ihw and for damage suits. A man s wife lately fell from a porch and injured herself. Her hus band immediately instituted legal progeedings against their landlord for damages to the amount ot 85,000, because he failed to have the porch naaQ sfanws eooagh to
